The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category Could Fix That

As any significant honors show approaches, one notices an outcry for the addition of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil in the world of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications actually cover many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
