Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can expect learning which characters will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
